Hi, this is Ben we used to be IRescueBees but recently incorporated and are now known as Bee For Life Foundation. We are State Registered Apiarist with four sanctuaries where we put those wayward bees.
Almost always we need to cut a hole into something to get the entire nest out. This is what is called a cutout, if the material we cut into doesn’t break we will nail it back on.
USDA issued a D2 drought for the west and expects it to become a D3. That’s some serious stuff right there. Our lingering drought is have a huge impact on managed as well as Feral bee populations.
We absolutely this drought will be the worst for honey bees on record. The beekeeping community has already seen a loss of 45% of their managed colonies for 2021-2022.
Locally, we have seen a decrease in Feral Honey Bee colonies as altogether. The colonies that we have encountered have been weak with low populations.
In times past we’ve encountered strong healthy colonies all across to Big Country, we are of the mindset that this drought coupled with the Great Texas Freeze has a lot to do with these weakened nest.
