So, you got bees living with you, here are some things you shouldn’t do. Attempting to seal them in, does not work. The bees will find their way out, and sometimes their way out is into your house.

Trying to kill them yourself or using a pest control company is seldom effective for two reasons:

An established colony has comb which is an environmental sponge, trapping the poison in the first couple of sheets of comb. Therefore, the insecticide does not get to the queen, and the surviving bee colony moves to a different cavity.

Secondly, the bees will most often move into another cavity that is not poisoned and start all over. The bees might seem to be gone but will only appear a few days later using an alternative entrance.

The Best thing to do is a cutout (the process of rescuing a colony of bees from a structure). We’ll locate the nest with thermal imaging and find the best way of removal.

By removing all the comb and capturing the Queen along with most of the workers, you can rest assured that the colony is gone and can not build back again. That particular colony will not be back because they’ll be relocated at one of our Honey Bee sanctuaries.

Once a house or structure gets bees it will always get bees, the only thing you can do is to prevent them from getting inside a cavity. Repairing and maintaining your home is the best prevention.

Any crack or hole 3/16 of an inch or more, should be either screened with number 8 hardware cloth or deeply caulked with a silicone based caulk or for rocks and bricks a mortared well.
